antti lovag-anticonformist architecture built from constructional sincerity

The works of Antti Lovag have been of great inspiration to me. In his work, I have found a type of constructional sincerity alluded to by the architects of the 18th an 19th century A&C movement to which they never really could approach...a mere hypothetical posture to challenge their static views and their static interpretation on the classical language of architecture.

Lovag´s best known work, the Pierre Cardín house near Cannes, is exemplary of his architectural intuition. The multiple spheres of concrete slide down the rolling hills of southern France like a wash of soap suds made fit for human habitat....Lovag is a pioneer of "Habitology." The study of man and his habitat, a difficult, abstract search towards the nature of the human dwelling..... Lovag has said that, "the straight line is an aggression against nature"...and also that "human beings have confined themselves to cubes full of dead ends and angles that impede our movement and break our harmony." (alex.marashian@dazedgroup.com from AnOther Man spring/summer 2008. www.exacteditions.com)

Lovag´s projects are intense collaborations between Lovag, his dedicated circle of friends and technicians, and fundamentally the client. "The placement of windows in Lovag´s habitats is decided by the clients, directly on site; there are no plans." (alex.marashian@dazedgroup.com from AnOther Man spring/summer 2008. www.exacteditions.com) A powerful bond between architect, client, and terrain, Lovag´s stylistic improvisation lends itself more to a spontaneous ingenuity that can answer all the surface questions of a dwelling as well as some of the subconscious tensions of its inhabitants.

Perhaps, it is Lovag´s decided effort or maybe his unabashed, confident personality that draws one to his works. From the traced radii of his spherical structures, one discovers an habitat where the impossible dreams of our orthogonal world; that which is controlled by spacial economy and marked by mankind´s deep-seated internal conflicts against the dead angles and impossible symmetries of our own urban Alcatraz, may indeed come true. Mankind is intuitively at the helm of this idea...all we need to do is to take the wind and sail.

thanks for your time...and to www.exacteditions.com whose article I found referenced online, and that exposed me for the first time to Antti Lovag. Peace, love, anarchytecture
